Hi there all you patient Ryan persons!

Yes, I know things have been a tad quiet in the Land-of-Ross but all that’s about to change.

As I may have mentioned in my last missive, Ross has been busy working up material for a new album - thus giving me the perfect excuse to take extended long service leave from my duties at Coathanger. However, having just attended my friend Kate's wedding in London, I’m now on my way back to Glen Iris – not because we’re close to a CD release date (c’mon it’s only been a year), but because Ross is about to optimistically embark on:

Ross Ryan 39th Anniversary Australian Tour 2011

Roy Orbison & Ross RyanYes that’s right! It was a mere 39 years ago that, whilst working in Perth as an audio engineer, a scruffy, hirsute Ryan accidently stumbled into show business when he was a last minute choice for the local support spot to music legend Roy Orbison. Somehow, Ross’s fumbling and frankly terrified performance won the crowd over (apparently he opened his set by apologising for being there) to the extent that the promoters asked him to join the tour for a further 13 dates across Australia.

Shortly afterwards he signed with EMI and the rest is ....well you get the drift.

So to celebrate nearly four decades of music making and indulgent newsletters, Ross is embarking on a potential Australia-wide tour, beginning in Melbourne on May 27th at the Albert Park Yacht Club.

Drawing on both old and new material, Ross will be accompanied on stage by the Glen Combo; consisting of bassist Roy Zedras and multi-instrumentalist Ken Stephenson. On the night they will also be joined by special guest Combo-ette Catherine Middleton (known to some as the Duchess of Oakleigh) on sax and accordion.

Now admittedly, because Coathanger’s entire touring division also took long service leave and are not due back until late June, there are still a few, shall we say, ‘gaps’ in the tour’s schedule. However, I have it on good authority that there’s a Canberra gig on the horizon, plus dates in WA – maybe even Queensland if any of the venues return our calls - and a few other bits and pieces that should fall into place pretty soon. At least that’s what we’re telling the band.

In the meantime, I have a flight to catch. Nice chatting to you again. More info as it comes to hand.

No, really.

Cheers,
