Dateline: Cario - July 2003

It's like the calm before the storm.

I've always had a yearning for all things Egyptian, so I thought I'd take a short vacation prior to the chaos that will no doubt ensue when Ross's album is at last completed.

Fortunately I found in the Medina, a conference, sponsored by a group of extremely intense young men, on "The Influence Of Australian Singer-Songwriters On Middle East Politics & Music". Has this tax write-off written all over it or what?

Anyway, according to information I've gleaned via intermittent SMS messages from Coathanger Head Office, it appears there's been quite a lot going on in "The Timeless World of etc .......".

Frankly, I'm as surprised as you are.

'Cool River' single released to radio.

As we speak, radio stations across Australia - in fact even across the Internet - are playing 'Cool River', the preview single from Ross's 'impending' and still, alas, untitled new album.

We've received an avalanche of emails from folks who have either heard the track on air or have caught one of a number of interviews Ross has given over the past few weeks.

We urge you to hassle any radio stations in your area who may be ignoring the historic significance of this particular release. Hell, it's the guy's first single in 20 years!! C'mon get involved already!

For those of you who haven't heard the track, download the FREE mp3.

RR Tour 2003 - Can Ross beat the Sydney jinx?

Here's an example of the kind of emails we get here at Coathanger:

Dear Connie,
Any chance of Ross performing in Sydney before I die ?
Phil

Well Phil, outside of campus performances and the odd appearance at the Opera House, Ross has never managed to score a decent gig in Sydney. Even during the nanosecond when he was at the peak of his perceived powers of popularity and even though he lived in the place for 12 years, appearances in the Harbour City were usually less than enjoyable experiences for all concerned.

Thus it is with much curiosity that we are pleased to announce Ross's first Sydney appearances in 15 years.

OK, so it's stand up and be counted time for all you Sydney folks who have for years been sending us pleading, blunt and often sarcastic emails about the lack of RR gigs in your town.

Now as far as I can tell, naturally taking into account that I'm in Egypt, the Old Manly Boatshed, Club Acoustica and the Harp Hotel look pretty good. So we've done our bit. We've found the gigs. It's up to you and your busloads of friends to ensure that after August 12, 13 & 17 we don't just write Sydney off for another 15 years.

Even more gigs!!

Apparently the building has recently been painted blue which of course makes this pic pointless.

Album update

As some of you may recall, Ross has been working on his new album for a little while now - like since 1979. We've had a few hiccups over the years with organising a release date for the CD but word on the streets of Glen Iris is that the sucker should be finished within the next few weeks with a projected August release - give or take 6 months or so.

Further info on new album

Almost your last chance at immortality

With the completion of Ross's CD sort of imminent, we are nearing the point where we will soon have to sign off on our offer of immortality.

If you're a member of our mailing list then you are already assured of your place in the annals of album credit history. However with Christmas drawing near, why not solve ALL your Christmas shopping worries by submitting to us the names of your friends and relatives.

Think about it. Imagine how thrilled they'll be on Christmas morning when they open the CD booklet and see their very own names up in print! . Even if they don't like Ross or his music - you'll still look like a winner. A winner who has come up with a most thoughtful and original gift.

Anyway, in the next few weeks we'll be posting the credit list up here on our web site so that you can make sure we got your name right and as an incentive to copy your address book into an e-mail and send it to Ross and Coathanger.

If you haven't signed up yet then go to:

Coathanger appoints official artist in residence

In an attempt to raise the tone of Coathanger's corporate image, we are swelled with pride to announce the appointment of one Ms Susan Beatty to the post of Coathanger Artist In Residence.

Sue specialises in fabric art and is currently working on a series of 'heads' including an amazing bust of Ross that that we'll no doubt exploit in our usual crass way.

Suzie's a very cool lady and she does great work. Check out her website:

Well folks, it's back to the Medina conference for me. This afternoon's seminar is on the link between internal rhyming patterns and OPEC. You just gotta love show business!

Cheers

Connie
