| Dateline: March-April 2009 - Palm Cove, Queensland |

Greetings from 'The Cove' - and what a whirlwind of activity there's been at Coathanger since our last newsletter!
Starting in 2008, we've so far had three separate CD launches for Ross's 'Difficult Third Compilation'; the album's publicity blitz kicked in; I joined Facebook; then there was the inauguration; plus the start of RR Tour 2009 - and now Coathanger's award winning video division, CVL, has just completed the clip for 'Queensland' - the single from the new album.
Momentarily putting aside all the 'good times' enjoyed; undoubtedly the most gratifying of activities, financially speaking, was the unofficial 'soft-launch' of the 'D3C' album just prior to Christmas.
This action successfully combined the desperate commercial goodwill of the festive holiday season with the ease of PayPal, to make 'The Difficult Third Compilation' a runaway hit. Add to that the extra lure to fans of the free bonus 'Stuff' CD - and you've just paid for your company's executive bonus scheme.
Our thanks to all participants.

The Glen Combo Big Band - December 28 2008 |

|
|
Last year, accompanied by a film crew and an assortment of management staff, I spent a month as the guest of The Queensland Tourism & Marketing Society, checking out luxury resort locations in preparation for the 'filming' of Ross's 'Queensland' video clip.
Eventually, due to its proximity to both the ocean and to a funky little 24 hour bar, Palm Cove - just north of Cairns - was chosen as base camp for our production team. There, another month was spent preparing for the scheduled week-long shoot.
Unfortunately, in late December, revised budgetary estimates forced us to re-locate after our backers at QTMS were charged with Ponzi styled trading irregularities and securities fraud.
The clip was subsequently shot in just under four hours - in Glen Iris - around the corner from Ross's house.
STOP PRESS: In unrelated news, Ross's 1979 appearance on Mr Squiggle has also been added to our Video Library.
(It doesn't get better than this ...)

| Ross Ryan Glen Combo Tour 2009 |
As Tour 2009 enters its fourth difficult month, Ross and the Glen Combo are currently preparing for their final March gig, on the 29th, at the Dandenong Workers' Social Club. (Details below.)
One of the tour's highlights so far was the inaugural 'Sunday Sounds' fair at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. Featuring performances by Shane Howard, Spectrum, Jo-Kelly Stephenson and many others including Glen Combo, a fine day of music and activity was had by all, to help raise awareness and funds for the Creative Therapies Service at Royal Talbot.

Meanwhile, looking towards the rest of Tour 2009 ...
For some time now, there has been much speculation in the Ryan blogosphere as to whether a few previously discussed tours of Queensland and Tasmania - to name but two - would in fact eventuate. In response, Coathanger Productions has created the position of Tour Coordinator - a position now ably filled by Ms Cathy Middleton (she's the one with the accordion).

Cathy has already brought a core of fresh ideas to Coathanger's Touring Division. Ideas like, focusing on finding gigs, contacting venues, negotiating fees, developing tour budgets, pricing travel and accommodation; and most remarkably, the radical concept of using publicity as a marketing tool.
Welcome aboard Cath!
And now - Sunday's show ....

And so ends 2009's first online newsletter.
Although we didn't use the Palm Cove facilities for the video, by chance, the rent on our accommodation is paid up until the end of April. As a result, I've volunteered to stay on here for the next few weeks coordinating Coathanger's contribution to Queensland's 150th celebrations
And hey - the video crew is still here too. Maybe I might make a documentary or something!
Oh, by the way. You can now find me on Facebook!
Connie Person. You'll see my pic. Let's hook up!
But in the meantime - hope you enjoy the clip!
Cheers
