December 2004 Verbose Coathanger Newsletter

Refreshed from her well deserved working holiday in the Aegean Sea,
Coathanger's canny world representative attempts to reach the warm
tropical paradise that is Fongafale and instead finds herself living on
food stamps, in freezing conditions, in a country
presently embroiled in political turmoil.

Dateline: December 2004 - Yalta YWCA, Ukraine

Look, don't even ask.

How hard would you imagine it is to get from Athens to say .. the Pacific island of Fongafale? Well, it appears it's REALLY hard. Especially if after losing your luggage, your flight is diverted to the Crimean Peninsula and a Ukrainian cab driver steals your briefcase which contains, you know ... like everything.

But enough of me ...

Coathanger celebrates 1PQ anniversary
with big Christmas push
Pacific 1PQ album

Coathanger has always prided itself on the fact that we're completely up front in our basic intent.

Simply put, we just want your money - and hey, how about that - it's Christmas again!

As you well know, 'One Person Queue' had a rather extended gestation period. As a result Coathanger has pretty much decided that any album that takes nearly two decades to finish deserves to be milked to the max and this includes continually re-launching the sucker for at least the next two or three years.

Thus it is in that context that Coathanger CEO Al DeKlien has penned an open letter to all Ross Ryan fans - especially those of you who took advantage of the free name credit on 1PQ - The Great List of the Immortal - that we offered prior to the album's release. Last year we felt that giving a CD to a loved one that had their name on it was more or less the perfect gift - and not surprisingly, we still do!

So in case you're still hesitant to part with your cash, we urge you to read ..

However, to prove that we're not totally mercenary, we have, in the spirit of Christmas, just released the second single from 1PQ - the bitter-sweet love/revenge ballad - 'Don't Be Unkind' - guest starring the dulcet tones of that amiable crooner Mark Holden plus the usual cast of thousands.

And it's FREE !!

Oceanic launch of 'One Person Queue'

As I mentioned earlier - I was hoping to be in Fongafale to organise the October 28th first anniversary Pacific launch of the 1PQ album. Having never seen Ross perform live I was certainly looking forward to the warm weather and unspoiled beaches. However with the help of the local fishing community, reports are that the Guano Beach launch was nevertheless a huge success.

Ross has also been working most nights with his band at the Fongafale Kon Tiki Elvis Bar (see Gig Guide) as well as with Mark Holden for their final 2004 'Idol & Idle' gig on Brando Island Tahiti.

Exclusive preview of new Ross Ryan biography

In conjunction with our first anniversary 1PQ celebrations, we are thrilled to have secured a preview of the forthcoming Jamie Forbes RR bio - 'The Thankless Years'.

In this chapter, Forbes reviews both the 'One Person Queue' album and for those who may have missed it, or had to leave early - last year's Palace Hotel CD launch.

Speaking of which, our web team has been diligently beavering away updating not only our Ryanews but our online 1PQ section. Check it out!

Fongafale Recorders open for business

From the ashes (well actually it was flood debris) of the late and lamented G.I. Recorders, we are pleased to announce the opening of Ross's new studio - Fongafale Recorders.

Utilising the best of South Pacific technology, Ross has just finished the new Rob Draper album - 'The Rest Are Details' and is currently working up new material for his follow up to 1PQ.

So should you, for example, require a jingle for your fish orientated business or perhaps think it's time to record that ukulele album you've always wanted to do - then give the studio a call on FONG19.

Fongafale Recorders - The sound of the Pacific!

Well folks, I'd better finish up. I have a meeting at the embassy here in Yalta regarding my new passport and hopefully they've completed the Interpol, MI6 and CIA checks by now.

On behalf of everyone here at Coathanger - including Ross, the Work Experience Girl and our new staff members Anne and Becky, we wish you all the traditional salutations of this furtive, festive season.

You guys take care. We shall speak in the new year!

Cheers
