The return of our loyal, recently detained, thoroughly debriefed,
reassigned and eager to please Coathanger ambassador.
Presenting the latest chapter of her ever earnest quest to bring the
music of Ross Ryan to the wider world ... for the greater good.

Dateline:September 2004 - Athens, Greece

It's a funny old world. One minute you're eating weevil infested rice with a bunch of Chinese web designers and the next you're drinking champagne and being feted by Olympic officials.

Since my liberation from the Mongolian education system (thank you dear Kofi) and my subsequent medical release from the Tokyo Military Security Hospital, I have been attending the Athens Olympics as a guest of the IOC whilst at the same time arranging the Greek release of Ross's 'One Person Queue' album.

Now that the games have concluded, I will be spending the next few weeks of perfect southern European weather, visiting record stores throughout the Greek Islands - hoping to raise the Ryan profile amongst some of the most breathtaking locations on Earth. Work, work, work!

RR 1PQ Tour 2004 - the Holden/Ashdown Connection

As you may have read in our recently updated Ryanews section, Coathanger's touring division has moved into the next phase of Ross's continuing live promotion of the 'One Person Queue' album. Having played solo to everyone that it was economically feasible to get to, Coathanger has now turned to exploiting the fan bases of both Mark Holden and Doug Ashdown.

Doug and Ross have recently completed several dates in NSW to sell-out houses and rave reviews with further shows muted for 2005. (See Tour Review)

As for Mark and Ross - under the guise of 'Idol & Idle', they have so far brought their casual form of entertainment to Bairnsdale, Flinders, Adelaide and Geelong. This occasional show will next be visiting Sydney for two shows September 24 and 25 at Mt Pritchard and Umina Beach.

In an effort to continue to reach as wide an audience as possible, negotiations are underway for tours with Kamahl, Guy Sebastian, TISM, Yothu Yindi, Nicky Webster, Björn Again, the Chinese guy from Oz Idol and the Wiggles.

Ross Gets Away From It All

The word 'vacation' is rarely found in the same sentence as Ross Ryan. In terms of feasibility, it's right up there with 'prolific' and 'rational'. Thus it came as a surprise to Ross's friends and family when postcards started arriving from Fongafale - an obscure Pacific island just S.E. of Nukufetau Atoll.

Seen here with his son Paul, who joined his father for a few days of shell collecting, Ross has used the time to relax and to map out his next project; a musical based on the life of Louis D'Allita - the man, who over a period of 60 years and in total seclusion, worked out a classification system - still used today - for rock mollusks. (See News item )

Ross will briefly return to Australia for the upcoming gigs with Mark Holden before returning to Fongafale to continue work on this exciting new project.

Coathanger Protegés Close To Completing Album Debuts

Remember how long it took for Ross to complete his 'One Person Queue' CD? Well, in the spirit of that great tradition, Coathanger is pleased to announce that the long awaited albums by Rupert & Red and Rob Draper are, as we euphemistically like to say, imminent.

As reported earlier, Ross's studio, G.I. Recorders, "ceased to be" as a permanent address earlier this year. However its activities as a world class recording facility have continued in the form of a Kombi van that can usually be found in the parking lot of the local Coles supermarket or outside any one of the many pubs that are scattered throughout greater Melbourne.

From these varied locations, work has continued on both albums with release dates soon to be announced.

Presently final touches are being carried out by Ross at Fongafale Recorders.

More details as they eventually come to hand.

Dapper Draper

Not unlike a few others I could mention, this year has certainly been quite a challenge. We have endured robbery, floods, looters, arrests, studio closures, Mark Holden, staff walkouts, computer viruses and mollusks - and yet I find I am strangely at peace.

As Coathanger looks towards the impending anniversary of 1PQ's release and as I gaze across the azure waters of the Aegean Sea I wish you well.

Again, many thanks to you all for your support during my Mongolian confinement - an unfortunate era for which I bear no malice. There is of course the small matter of there still being 200 or so former Sino-Coathanger web designers who continue to be 'educated' at the pleasure of the Chinese government.

Maybe I'll send them a postcard.

Happy sailing
Cheers
